All had high dropout rate and very little study size.That led researchers led by Dr. Richard W. Eriksen of Stanford, along with colleagues at the University of California at San Francisco and Johns Hopkins University, to conclude that, "This systematic review shows no clear evidence to date for the use of aerosol formulations of dexamethasone and ursodiol in the treatment of acute sinusitis in adults."The review was published in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.The research is being reviewed with the goal of developing new guidelines for use of nasal sprays of both types, called spray-on steroids, by clinician reviewers in the physician's office.The findings will inform the development of new prescriptions for spray-on steroids that can be easily controlled.The findings do not support the use of aerosol formulations of dexamethasone plus ursodiol in adults, which could be recommended to the general population, Eriksen said.
